S. Kent Rockwell

S. Kent Rockwell is the Chairman of the Board of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Rockwell Venture Capital (RVC): a company which he founded in 1983. RVC has invested in a variety of technology companies since its inception.

Mr. Rockwell is currently the Chairman of the Board of The ExOne Company. He has held this investment since 2008. The ExOne Company is his 4th public Company in his career in which he has held a CEO role.

Mr. Rockwell retired from Argon ST as Vice Chairman in 2008. He is former Chairman, CEO, and President of Astrotech International Corporation, and SensysTech. He also served as a Group President and member of the board of directors of Rockwell International Inc. from 1973 to 1983.

He has invested in a variety of businesses in addition to ExOne including Rockwell Forest Products Inc., Strata Products Worldwide (an underground mining services company), Appalachian Timber Service (supplying quality timber products for railroads), Strata Proximity Systems (providing proximity detection and avoidance systems for mining operations), and Pro Grass, LLC, (a synthetic turf supplier.)

Mr. Rockwell earned a B.A. in both economics and business from Lafayette College in Easton, PA and attended graduate school at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Rockwell serves on the Board of Trustees of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation as well as Lafayette College. He has gone from being the youngest trustee on the Lafayette College board in 1971 to the oldest trustee in 2018. (did not serve between 1973-2015)


Kris Rockwell

After gaining his MA from Duquesne University in 1998, Kris went to work for US Airways as the Manager of the Media Production and Support Group (MPSG). At US Airways Kris oversaw the development of the computer based training system for the Boeing 737-300/400 series aircraft and developed and implemented the data collection tool for the airlines Advanced Qualification Program (AQP).

In 2003 Kris founded Hybrid Learning Systems as a company dedicated to developing new and unique solutions for learning applications. Over the past nine years, Kris has worked with customers to implement innovative solutions with a focus on mobile learning and gaming applications including the award winning “Game of Phones” card game. In 2010, Hybrid acquired ImpactGames to further its development in gaming and socially responsible initiatives. ImpactGames portfolio includes the critically acclaimed game “Peacemaker” as well as the “Play the News” platform that was the basis for the DevLearn, DemoFest best of show winning game “Play the Election”.

Kris’ recent work has focused on newer technologies and works to combine a wide variety of technologies and concepts from 3D printing to sensors and physical computing and led to the creation of FourFortySix, Inc., a consultancy that helps clients realize innovative gaming solutions for their training programs.

An entrepreneur in the learning and development industry for the past fourteen years, Kris was introduced to 3D printing in 2007. In 2012 while attending a conference Kris was inspired to formalize his concept to create a non-profit organization that used 3D printing to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) principles as well as entrepreneurship. This dream was realized in 2013 when The Additive Project was formed and delivered an open source, online 3D printing curriculum that was intended for programs in underserved communities.

Along with his current position as President and Trustee for the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation, Kris also serves on the board of The Kiski School, For Good PGH, Trout Unlimited Headwaters and the Minority Outdoor Alliance.


John Irvin

John Irvin currently serves as a senior advisor for Rockwell Venture Capital.

From 2012 to 2013, he served as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of The ExOne Company (XONE) and led the team in taking the company public on the NASDAQ in 2013. ExOne manufactures, sells and supports 3D printing machines.

In July, 2008 he served as President of PartnersFinancial, a leading national life insurance producer group owned by National Financial Partners. From 1993 to July 2008, he was CEO of Innovative Benefits Consulting, Inc., a life insurance consulting firm. From 1983 through 1993, John was a partner and co-founder of Mid Atlantic Capital Group and president of Mid-Atlantic Insurance Corporation, where he specialized in serving the financial planning, asset management and insurance needs of ultra-high net worth individuals. At the beginning of his career, John worked as a CPA in public accounting with the international accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Company. He then formed his own accounting firm engaging in individual taxation, financial planning, estate planning and trust work.

John formerly served on the Board of Directors for Argon ST, a NASDAQ-traded firm, and chaired its audit committee from 2001 until it was acquired by The Boeing Company in 2010. Today he serves on The ExOne Company Board of Directors, a NASDAQ-traded firm as well as the Mine Vision Systems, Inc. Board of Directors, a private global mining technology company.

John has a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) designation from the American College. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation, John currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the PartnersFinancial Foundation based in Austin, TX as well as the Irvin Family Foundation.


Patricia Babyak

Patricia Babyak has been a member of the Board of Directors of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation since the inception of the Foundation in 2015. She is an Entrepreneur in the hospitality and real estate industries. She owned and operated Cross Keys Restaurant from 1986 through 2002. Cross Keys was an upscale restaurant located in Fox Chapel, a suburb of Pittsburgh. In addition to her Cross Keys investment, she has invested in several real estate properties supporting the activities of the S. Kent Rockwell family businesses. Prior to 1986 she held various positions in food and beverage management in the hospitality industry. Pat is a graduate of Indiana University with a major in mathematics and a minor in psychology.

Pat’s philanthropic activities with the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation have been primarily focused on the efforts of the foundation around community support and involvement. She is an active supporter of women’s health, education, and advancement matters. Pat has also been an advocate for involvement of the foundation in supporting the management and prevention of drug and alcohol addiction.

Pat’s life has been touched by individuals with the disease of addiction due to its, at times, prevalence in the hospitality industry as well as through her personal network. She believes in science-based management of the root causes of the addiction, as well as understanding the physical predisposition to the disease. Her education and experience prepared her for times when she has served as a mentor to families whose loved ones have been afflicted with an addiction issue. She has also supported various efforts around other diseases and improved education opportunities for the poor. Pat has had grass roots involvement in these causes over her entire career, including volunteering at the Veterans Administration and assisting in the creation of The Oasis, a recovery center based in Pittsburgh. Additionally, she has been involved for decades volunteering in homeless shelters, spearheading clothing drives for the poor, tutoring for the hearing impaired, and volunteering at Children’s Homes.

In addition to her focus of helping others in the community, Pat also pursues her interests in gourmet cooking, gardening, and reading.


Peter E. Boorn Jr.

Peter E. Boorn Jr. is a Managing Director with Tallmadge & Hill, an executive search firm that specializes in the placement of financial services professionals. Having joined Tallmadge & Hill in 1996, he was promoted to his current position in 2001 and now runs the real estate finance practice. Prior to his work in the executive search industry, he worked as an investment manager with Merrill Lynch and started his professional career with the Pittsburgh High Technology Council.

Pete serves on the Board of Directors of the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation where he is the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee. In addition to his work on the Foundation, he also serves as the Co-Chair for the Epiphany Social Entrepreneurship Fund, Council Member for Community Ministries of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and a Session Member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

He received his B.A. from Duke University and now resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two children.
